The word Land art itself explains the relation of landscape and art which are linked to each other. In late sixties an art movement appeared in the United States of America and Europe, which was named Land art. The book explains the fine line between which separates the Land art and the Landscape architecture and how they intersect.The author express about the nature as a material palette for art. Materials used for e.g. the earth, snow, etc. it also talks about the architectural form like circles, lines which are observed in nature and also the various types of landscapes like desert, agricultural fields that separates and unites the Land art. In the later part, he also talks about the social dimensions like distance, history and mythology, and romantic perception of nature and its connection with the human nature, his feelings and desires. The book sustains the ideas by featuring the works of twelve different artists and architects who have done great work in their field and have become an identity/ a mark. Following are the two examples which explain the work of the artist/ architect.Landscape architect Martha Schwartz, sees the relation between art, culture and landscape. She sees landscaping as an art and thus tries to show her originality without feeling constrained. She is known for creating something which has a dramatic impact, asymmetric and opposing elements, which are bounded in a formal design. She also uses colours in her design to focus on some strong element. Her work is extraordinary and unique. On the other hand, Hannsjorg Voth, a landscape artist, who seeks freedom of art and impression of undeveloped environments. His work in Morocco, a triangular clay structure at the edge of a dessert, marking it as the infinite expanse of the desert. For the artist, it is a loss of artistic freedom if it is done for the others. The study of nature and its relation with human, makes his work more significant.After reading about the different works of Artists or architects it is difficult to find the balance between the form-function, aesthetics-usability etc. There is a thin line between the Landscape architecture with Land art which is hard to read. The book has explained the works of architects and artists in detail with the help of text, interviews, drawings and photographs. It also gives various materials for exploring new ideas. Weilacher declares that this is an area that has no rules and no vocabulary, only a series of different approaches.
