Research Paper

Can happiness be controlled? Have you
ever wished that we didn’t have to deal with sadness, stress or anxiety? There
are many steps that people can take to increase happiness  regardless of their background or
circumstances. When the topic of happiness comes up a million things can pop
into your head. Some people can say that happiness is a choice. However,
there are many different factors how we feel. Happiness is something everyone
wants. To be happy, is indeed one of the most fundamental wants in life. So,
since everyone is thriving to be happy, why doesn’t everyone have it? Happiness
just doesn’t happen, it has to be made, but most importantly it has to a
decision in one’s mind. Happiness comes to those who expect it and therefore
deserve it the most. If you want to be happy you must use your own responsibility
and stop looking to things or people to make you happy.  Happiness has many
different meanings to the billions of people in the world. I believe happiness
can be controlled, but, however, true happiness comes from our favor, family, and
most importantly it’s decision in one’s mind.

Happiness is a choice, That’s right,
a choice.  When we talk about happiness,
we can go on for days, there is so much to say. “We always have the choice to be happy. Learning to change our attitude is
frustrating, but worth it in the end. When we choose to be happy, things tend to work in our
favor, and luck seems to be on our side; and even if things don’t happen the way you want them to, if you choose
to be happy, you can accept situations for what they are and make the most of
life, no matter the hand it deals you ( Mariana Ashley 1)”  As for myself I choose “happiness”….even in
the midst of stress and anxiety. I decided to start living life and be happy
with my self. I decided to reach out to a therapist and psychiatrist and make a
difference within myself. I could have complained and cried, but I didn’t, yes
I did at times, but overall it was the happiness, it made it all worth it. I
ended up really improving, I am so much happier with myself and the way I live
life.  The only person that can say
whether you’re feeling happy or not is our self.  People have control over what they think and
how they act, both of those can affect your mood or attitude. I know how people
say that it isn’t and how you don’t have control, but you can easily.

I believe if you have the best support system
in your life, you can have the most impacted happiness skills, you can also be
a source of happiness, encouragement and support for other people as well. “Care
about people. in life, you get what you put in.
When you make a positive impact in someone else’s life, you also make a
positive impact in your own life (Marc and Angel 1)”.  Being on others sides and giving them advice
about choosing happiness, really affects the way you feel in your own body. The
more we give, the more we push to gain purpose, meaning and happiness is the
key to success. Having your family and friends around you can make a huge
difference in the way you live your daily lives. “Research shows that spending
time with friends and family makes a big difference when it comes to happiness.
Social time is especially important for happiness –even for introverts. Studies
have proven that the amount of time spent with friends and family –goes a long
way towards boosting happiness –even more so than an increased income” (English
1). I believe when I have my closet relatives supporting me through tout the
day, it is the only way I can get myself going. Always be thankful for the
people around you. Be sure to thank them and tell them how exactly they have
been a contributor to your happiness in your life. Being in college is an extremely
difficult time, especially for me. I came to the University of Arizona not
knowing one single person. I wanted a brand new start, new lifestyle, and build
strong friendships with new people from all over the country. It took a lot of
time to get used too, especially coming from south Florida. I knew once I
started college, and got in the hang of things, my happiness would rise up! One
of the first thing we need to understand and accept if we want to live a happy
life is dealing with the consequences we face.

            People like the feeling of
accomplishment, It’s the decisions in one’s minds to accomplish happiness. I can
really feel that my thinking patterns have changed, and when I do feel down, I
am able to see it in perspective and deal with it much more rationally. I’ve
been writing down three good things every night, and the difference this has
made has been huge. This really has been a life-changing practice – and also a
very enjoyable one. It’s like a screwed vision of reality. Happiness is not
created, Happiness is the default, our negative minds and thought and emotions
gets us down. The ultimate in human freedom is our ability to choose our
attitude in any given situation. Our attitude, then gives rise to emotion. Yes,
we can absolutely choose to be happy if we are courageous enough to do so. We
see things through our mind, so if our mind is faulty, we see our mind faulty
vision of the world.  Do more of what
you’re good at and less of what you’re not so good at. Having a good mindset is
life changing. It can make your day 100x better. Often we hear the cliché
saying “Money can’t buy happiness” but this is in fact true. Winning the lottery isn’t a ticket to true
happiness, however enticing it might be to imagine never working again and
being able to afford anything you want. Isn’t it amazing how we’re drawn to
people with sunny dispositions? One of the consequences of this phenomenon of
human nature is that happy people regularly benefit from the enthusiastic help
and cooperation of others.

To conclude I believe that happiness
can be found just about anywhere, you just have to open your eyes and look for
it. Choosing happiness is something I really take in. Hapiness is very
important to me. It makes me who I am today. I choose to be happy, I choose to surround
my self with people who only bring me up and going. Happiness will be seen by
others, and it will help influence their attitude. Once you have happiness as
your default choice, you will start seeing happiness all around you, and you
will become a happier person. Attitudes are contagious, so try to have one
worth catching!
